Adrian Newey ‘s future in Formula 1 is currently under great doubt and confusion. Multiple people believe that the aero-genius might retire from the sport after deciding to leave Red Bull. However, rumors claim that the 65-year-old is already in talks with multiple teams to join in the coming season. Hence, amidst the ongoing search, Jenson Button claimed that the technical wizard joining another team would be good for the sport.

Red Bull has dominated the entirety of the ground-effect era and will continue to do so till the regulation changes of 2026. Hence, Adrian Newey‘s departure from the team might see them struggle during the regulation changes. Jenson Button reckoned that the 65-year-old leaving Milton Keynes would ‘hurt’ the Austrian team and their atmosphere. According to Button, Red Bull won’t be happy to see the ‘most important’ man in the team quit.

Obviously it hurts Red Bull and it probably also hurts the atmosphere of the team to know that the most important man in the team, who develops this wonderful car they have, he's not happy and wants to leave. Jenson Button told Sky Sports F1.

Newey’s highly decorated career in the pinnacle of motorsport will likely help him land a spot in one of the top teams. Hence, the 65-year-old’s entry in another top constructor will likely propel the team to success early on during the regulation changes. Button claimed that this entire situation would be a ‘good thing’ for the sport as a whole. The 44-year-old claimed that Adrian Newey’s race craft could give another team with a wonderful opportunity to score great results in the coming seasons.

For sport, it would probably be a good thing if we saw it somewhere else. It would give another team an opportunity. Jenson Button noted.

Adrian Newey joining a rival would be an ‘unmitigated disaster’ for Red Bull

Adrian Newey’s entry into another constructor would mean that the 65-year-old takes a truckload of knowledge about Red Bull’s operations. Hence, an anonymous team principal reckoned that the aero-genius leaving Red Bull could pose an ‘unmitigated disaster’ for the Austrian team. A majority of the constructors are highly keen to acquire the highly sought-after engineer under their team.

It would be an unmitigated disaster for Red Bull if Adrian was let go early to join a competitor. An anonymous team principal said, as reported by autosport.com.

The same person further berated the team principal Christian Horner over the entire situation. The anonymous man also recalled Martin Whitmarsh‘s act back in 2009 when he handed Brawn GP with the Mercedes engine. This subsequently enabled the the new team to dominate the sport before becoming a Mercedes works team in 2010. Hence, Adrian Newey’s move to a rival team could pose a similar threat of allowing yet another constructor to take over the dominance.

Christian would look like a complete fool. Just as Whitmarsh did at McLaren when he handed Brawn the keys to Mercedes, which kickstarted their years of dominance in F1. An anonymous team principal mentioned.

Adrian Newey exiting from Red Bull won’t show much effect during the 2025 season. However, the 2026 season will be highly exciting as the Austrian team might finally be dethroned from the pedestal. Ferrari seems to be the team of choice for the 65-year-old to join in the coming season. Hence, the Italian constructor might finally return back to their winning ways under the aero-genius.
