The Mercedes F1 team has not got off to the best of starts during the ongoing 2024 season. After six rounds the outfit is sitting in fourth place and with Imola just around the corner, Toto Wolff has admitted that the upcoming event will be very challenging.

Mercedes’s W15 has so far proved to be nowhere near its rivals and the situation is so bad that even McLaren has pipped them in the Constructors standings. The Brackley-based team has only managed 64 points in comparison to the papaya outfit’s 124.

However, despite the issues, Toto Wolff is keeping a positive outlook ahead of the much-anticipated Italian event.

After two Sprints in a row, we now go back to the more usual weekend format. It has several fast and flowing sections, but some low-speed corners too, and a tricky, bumpy surface. It’s narrow, which makes overtaking difficult, and has plenty of elevation. All that combines to provide a stern test and one we’re looking forward to. Toto Wolff said in an interview with Silverarrows.net

The Enzo e Dino Ferrari racing circuit is known for its free-flowing nature and it allows drivers to put their respective challengers through the absolute wringer. Mercedes is bringing upgrades to its car and it could help them move up on the grid during the three-day race weekend.

Mercedes has a clear ‘understanding’ of where to improve the W15

With the Brackley-based outfit bringing upgrades to the upcoming event, Toto Wolff has high hopes. The Austrian has even admitted that his team has nailed down the areas where the W15 needs to improve.

He believes the last six races have immensely helped Mercedes with the understanding of its car.

The first six races have not been straightforward, but we have built a clear understanding of where we need to improve and shaped a clear path forward to tackle that. It will be several races before we see this bear fruit, but everyone is working hard to bring them as soon as is possible. Toto Wolff said in the same interview

The ongoing campaign still has 18 races remaining on the calendar and considering this, there is plenty of time for the Mercedes outfit to make a strong comeback. They have everything in their arsenal to do that and Imola could prove to be the perfect launching pad for them to start moving toward the extreme north end of the grid.
