NFL Mock Draft: Seahawks' Grubb Reunites With OL Standout
Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

The Seattle Seahawks have been mild participants in free agency, with more of a focus on trying to retain their own instead of on big players.

The Seahawks have seen several players leave, leaving their roster and offensive line in flux. Starters in Damien Lewis and Evan Brown have left, and that leaves two starting offensive line positions that have to be filled.

Cleveland Browns guard Nick Harris is the only new lineman brought in at the time of writing, which still leaves the unit short on firepower and as such, NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah has the Seahawks taking Washington standout Troy Fautanu in his latest mock draft.

"Fautanu reunites with Seahawks offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb, who was his OC at UW," Jeremiah writes. "Fautanu can play tackle, but he would slide in at guard as a rookie with the 'Hawks."

With Fautanu's selection, Grubb gets one of his cornerstone pieces from Washington to help protect Geno Smith in 2024. Fautanu's versatility could benefit the Seattle offensive line, which still has holes to fill across the unit.

Given that Grubb's offense in college liked to air out the football, with weapons like D.K. Metcalf, Jaxon Smith-Njiba, and Tyler Lockett, Geno will need time to throw.

That's where Fautanu and his supreme pass-blocking skills come to the forefront. Just as comfortable as a tackle or guard, the 6-4, 317-pound mauler can easily establish himself as a cornerstone piece of Grubb's offensive line.

What makes this pick even better for Seattle is that Grubb knows exactly what he's getting in Fautanu. Given the pair's previous history, there's every chance that Fautanu will hit the ground running in Seattle.

This is precisely what Geno and the offense will want from its first-round offensive lineman.
