Watch: Hurricanes forward makes incredible desperation save

Carolina Hurricanes forward Jordan Martinook is not a goalie, so he technically does not get any saves on the stat sheet. That does not take away from the fact that he legitimately saved a goal in Game 6 of Carolina's second-round Eastern Conference playoff series against the New York Rangers on Thursday night.

With the Hurricanes leading 3-1 in the second period, Rangers defenseman Ryan Lindgren was able to sneak a backhand shot through the legs of Hurricanes goalie Frederik Andersen that seemed to be slowly rolling across the line. It would have almost certainly gotten the Rangers back into the game.

Just before the puck went across the line, however, Martinook came flying in from out of nowhere to swipe the puck off the line and prevent a goal.

Have a look at the play.

The entire puck has to cross the line for it to be a goal, and Martinook was barely able to keep that from happening. It really is a game of inches sometimes.

That is the type of play where, if a team ends up winning the Stanley Cup, it leads the Stanley Cup DVD at the end of the season. Sometimes you need those types of plays to win.

The Hurricanes still have a long way to go before they get to that point, however. That includes trying to overcome a 3-0 deficit in this series.
